Kyriakos Charalambides

Born in 1940 in Cyprus at Achna by Ammochostos/Famagusta, Cyprus, he completed his secondary education in Ammochostos. Then, he studied in the Department of History and Archaeology of the School of Letters, University of Athens. As student he attended courses on Theatre in Athens and Radio Broadcasting in Munich. Worked for a short time as a secondary school teacher in Cyprus and later in the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (CYBC-RIK), from where he retired as Director of Radio.

In November 2013, he was awarded a Doctorate Honoris Causa by the Faculty of Letters, University of Athens. In November 2013 he was elected a corresponding member of the Academy of Athens, in the class of Letters and Fine Arts, branch of Literature (Poetry). He lives and works in Cyprus. His first collection of poems was published in Athens, in 1961, while still a student. Almost all of his work has been published in Athens, by mainstream publishing houses.
